Marathon XC (XCM) is held on a course that is 60 km + in length and does not cover the same section of trail more than once. Only the start and finishing lines may be located at the same place. In BC however, an exception has been made to allow races over 45 km in length to be defined as Marathon.

Event Description

This beginner friendly team event is based out of the beautiful No.6 mine park in Cumberland.  The park is where registration takes place, where teams can set up for the day and is the lap point for the course.  A free BBQ and snacks will be provided throughout the day.  Category winners will be presented with custom mugs from Scott Beardsley pottery and all participants will have a chance to win draw prizes following the event.  
  • Categories : Solo, teams of 2 and teams of 4 – male, female or co-ed.
  • Format : most number of laps completed in 12 hours.
  • Registration : 7:00am in number 6 mine park.
  • Racing starts at 8am and continues to 8pm.
  • Advanced registration is available from 4-10pm at the Riding Fool Hostel in the week leading up to the event.
  • Bring your tents, coolers, lounge chairs and more. Cowbells always welcome!

Solo participants in the 12 Hrs of Cumberland will be eligible for an entry to the series draw prize of an entry to the 2011 BC Bike Race.

Event Description
Run or Bike Solo or Team, 54Km in two laps, 95% single track, described by former participants as fast, fun, gnarly, scary, no climbing, no descents, rocky, many logs, muddy, wet, dry, tough climbing, steep descents, long, and the hardest event with the best trails anywhere. This may or may not be true, but we offer you an event with a focus on fun and challenge.
Free camping, Homemade Wood fired Pizza post race.

Sproat Lake Marathon June 6th

Just announced!

Alberni Valley Riders are pleased to announce their upcoming Marathon on Sunday June 6th at Sproat Lake. This marathon length course includes The Lazer Shark, which is a brand new trail born from the fires of Hell! Don’t expect to enjoy it while you are riding it, but the memories of it will haunt you for the rest of your life! It is perfectly suited for a fully rigid single speed 29er or a DH bike. Bring your toe spikes and bibs and make sure that you are well caffeinated!

15km loop, 4 hour bell lap format – like a 12 hour only shorter :)

What better place to spend a late spring weekend than in the Alberni Valley!
